Did you know that more than 37 million people in the United States have diabetes? Did you also know that Type 2 diabetes accounts for approximately 90 to 95% of all diagnosed cases? You may think that you need to live with this disease for the rest of your life. But, there are people who do their research, take control of their lives and do what it takes to actually reverse it. It can be done!

On today’s episode we’re changing things up a little bit! We recently had one of our coaches, Jesse Buck, interview two of our members who will share their stories on how they turned their lives around and have beaten this disease. You will see it takes hard work, a new mindset and a few simple changes.

Kelsey Burbank has been a member of Journey since March of 2021. She has been a big boost of energy and inspiration and embodies everything we are about. Before she came to Journey, she was scared straight when she ended up in the ER. It was there where she found out she had high blood pressure, a vitamin D deficiency and was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.

Once Kelsey left the hospital, she started doing her research and found you can reverse diabetes. At that point, she made it her goal and set an intention to do just that. There’s only a small percentage of people who actually accomplish diabetic remission because it is difficult to do. But with a strong support system including friends, family and everyone at Journey, she has achieved her goal and is in diabetic remission.

Our second guest, Andy Wales, had also been diagnosed with diabetes a few years prior to being introduced to Journey Fitness. He is an Art teacher and was invited by a friend to do a teacher challenge. He had tried losing weight and changing his diet on his own, but like many others, found his weight going up and down like a yo-yo.

Andy felt awkward at first doing the high intensity and strenuous exercises. It was difficult at first, but he has really come a long way. Andy knew that he just needed to keep moving because that was better than being at home. The fun atmosphere that Journey creates along with having friends to workout alongside of him has kept Andy motivated.

Over the past year and a half, Andy has lost over 60 pounds, gained quite a bit of muscle and has been able to stop taking all medications. He no longer has diabetes and is so grateful for his Journey family. He knows he couldn’t have done it without Journey and says it has added years to his life.
